Amanda O'Connor, Social Work Student Intern
Hi! I’m Amanda.
I am an educator with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) specializing in Social Studies, and I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Counselling and Social Work at The Mico University College.
My experience as an educator has allowed me to work closely with children and adolescents from different backgrounds and with different needs. Over the years, I have learned that sometimes what a young person needs most is someone who will genuinely listen, provide encouragement, and create a space where they feel comfortable being themselves. My experiences in education have played an important role in my decision to pursue counselling.
As a counsellor-in-training, I am interested in working with children, adolescents, and adults who may be experiencing stress, anxiety, grief and loss, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, difficult life transitions, or simply need someone to talk to. I believe that people have strengths within themselves that can sometimes become difficult to recognize when life feels overwhelming.
My approach to counselling is warm, supportive, and collaborative. I want my clients to feel heard rather than judged and supported rather than told what to do. Together, we can explore what is happening in your life, identify your strengths, develop healthy ways of coping, and work toward changes that are meaningful to you.
